Train Hits Unoccupied Car

A Metrolink train collided into an occupied car, and authorities closed the tracks and a roadway to clean up debris.

The collision occurred around 5:40 p.m. Police and firefighters arrived shortly after to reports of a train striking a vehicle on the tracks. The accident occurred at Sand Canyon near the I-5 freeway.

The car was a Chevrolet Cavalier. Thankfully, it was unoccupied. The female driver was found nearby. Her car had stalled on the tracks, and she was able to evacuate the vehicle. A civilian passing by helped the woman out of her vehicle.  Fortunately, there were no reports of any injuries.

The car was severely damaged. Authorities had to close the track for a cleanup operation. A portion of Sand Canyon, from Oak Canyon to Burt Road, was also shut down for several hours after the accident.

Passengers of the train reported that Metrolink handled the situation very well. All passengers were safely transported home, and no passengers were injured.

Everyone involved in this accident is very lucky no one is injured. Train and car collisions are a serious problem.  Car passengers are usually killed on impact or die at the scene of the collision. The train passengers are also in danger. The impact can cause significant injuries.
