A three-year-old girl is in critical condition after she was hit by a vehicle believed to be involved in an attempted drive-by shooting.

The Police responded at approximately 8 p.m. to reports of a car hitting a pedestrian in an Anaheim neighborhood. Once on the scene, the police received additional reports of shots being fired near the scene of the hit-and-run.

After the hit-and-run collision, the 3-year-old girl was found seriously injured. She was taken to a hospital. The victim is still in critical condition, but doctors are optimistic.

Witnesses described the vehicle as a dark compact car. Additional witnesses told police that the same vehicle had been involved in a drive-by-shooting. Witnesses reported seeing the car enter the neighborhood, and its driver fired at an unseen individual. The driver hit the little girl while he was speeding away from the drive-by-shooting.

Police have not located anyone who was harmed by the gunfire. A car matching the witnesses’ description was later stopped. The suspect was stopped near Harbor Boulevard and La Palma Avenue. After he was stopped, the driver dropped a gun in his car and attempted to run. The suspect was quickly stopped by a police dog.

According to Anaheim police Sgt. Bob Dunn, police are investigating if the incident was gang related. The suspect is expected to be booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and illegal possession of a handgun, but after more investigation, Dunn believes that there may be more charges.

Locals and witnesses were heartbroken by the horrible accident. Everyone that knew the little girl described her as a sweet cheerful little child. Police ask that anyone with additional information about the hit-and-run or drive-by-shooting to please come forward.
