Huntington Beach Becomes More Bike Friendly

The Orange County beach city will be becoming more bike-friendly.

Huntington Beach has drafted a Bicycle Master Plan. The plan was posted on Huntington Beach’s website. With this plan, Huntington Beach will improve riding conditions for bicyclists. The city also plans to educate the public about sharing the road with motor vehicles. Huntington Beach’s goal is to meet bicyclists’ needs and encourage more bicycle use.

The public will have an opportunity to voice their opinions at an upcoming council meeting. The exact date of the meeting has not been determined. This project started in 2012. Huntington Beach has reached out to the biking community for its input. The city held workshops to strengthen the plan. From these workshops, Huntington Beach determined its biggest obstacle.

Huntington Beach’s biggest obstacle is that bicyclists’ have a wide range of abilities, knowledge, and comfort level of the road and riding. Some bicyclists ride over 20 miles in a single bike ride, and others just bike by the beach. This wide range of skills and knowledge will make it difficult for Huntington Beach to implement the plan.

The Hunting Beach Bicycle Advocates have suggested a 14 point plan. Huntington Beach used this plan to develop its master plan. Huntington Beach will implement bikeway projects and improve existing lanes and education programs.

Currently, Huntington Beach has multi-use paths. These are lanes that pedestrians and bicyclists share. Multi-use paths are located along Pacific Coast Highway from Warner Avenue to Brookhurst Street. The new plan will expand multi-use paths. There will be seven additional roads added.

Huntington Beach also plans to improve on bike education. The city wants to improve on teaching bicyclists and motorists about their rights on the road. An exact education plan has not been created. The city hopes to improve safety by education.

Bicyclist safety is incredibly important. In the case of a bicycle and motor vehicle collision, the bicyclists will be seriously injured. The driver will probably escape with few if any injuries. Bicyclists are more susceptible to serious injuries. It is important that bicyclists and motorists understand the rules of the road. If everyone follows these rules, the road will be safer for bicyclists and motorists.

If you are ever in a car accident, do not hesitate to contact Huntington Beach car accident attorney. Injuries from car accidents can be quite serious and often fatal. Do not hesitate to contact the Law Offices of Dara Khajavi, if you are ever in an accident.

  1. Correctly time your purchase

Dealerships are more willing to lower prices at certain times of the year. Usually, you can save money by purchasing a car at the end of the month. Car salespeople have monthly goals. Salespeople are given bonuses if they meet their goal. At the end of the month, car salespeople will feel more pressured to sell cars to reach their goal. You can usually get the price knocked significant down.

At the end of the year, dealerships are trying to boost their numbers for the year. To boost sales, they are willing to lower the prices significantly. During the summer, especially on July 4th, there are also many deals and promotions.

  1. Buy last year’s model

If you buy last year’s model, you can buy a new car for much lower price. Salespeople are trying to get rid of all last year’s model. This means lower prices on a new car! Usually, there is very little difference between the new and old model. Buy last year’s model and you will save a great deal of money.

  1. Do not get pressured into buying unnecessary extras

The salesperson and dealership may trick you into thinking that you need certain extras. Common unnecessary extras are extended warranties, road service, and rust protection. Extended warranties are usually unnecessary. The car usually comes with a sufficient enough warranty. These extra services can be easily done at home for a much lower cost.

The salesperson may also try to convince you to buy expensive packages to upgrade your vehicle. These packages can come with great options. However, if you only want one of the extras, see if you can purchase just that extra. There is no need to pay for extras that you don’t even want.

  1. The Internet

The Internet is an incredible resource. Before making any purchase decisions, research the car prices online. You can compare different dealerships’ prices. Usually, urban dealerships have lower prices than suburban dealerships.

If you find a great price, contact the other local dealerships. Ask the other dealerships, if they can match the great price. Usually, dealerships will be willing to match or even beat the price.

  1. Ask for deals on services and maintenance

The dealership may offer services and maintenance for a year or more. Take advantage of these offers! Ask the dealership about all of their deals on services and maintenance. You could save yourself a good chunk of money.

Federal Safety Agency Investigating 3 Car Companies

1.3 million Toyota, Ford, and Honda vehicles are being investigated. No recalls have been announced, but this investigation could lead to a recall.

Approximately 725,000 Ford cars and SUVs are being investigated. Vehicles under fire include Ford Escape, Mercury Marnier SUVs, Ford Fusion, and Mercury Milan from the model years 2009 through 2011. There have been different problems associated with these vehicles. The biggest safety issue is vehicle stalling. Ford and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have received 1,500 complaints about the problem. There have been three crashes and one injury related to this problem.

The American car manufacturer has reported that vehicles produced from June 22, 2009 to October 15, 2009 may contain faulty circuit boards that affect the throttles. After October 15, 2009, Ford changed its circuit board manufacturing process. According to Ford, the problem was resolved after this change.

Japanese car manufacturer, Toyota, is also being investigated. The Toyota Prius is being investigated. 561,000 Prius vehicles built between 2004 and 2009 are affected by the investigation. The federal investigation will be inspecting the vehicles’ steering shafts. The steering shafts may have been improperly assembled.

These affected vehicles were also part of another Toyota recall that also involved steering shaft issues. In the recall, 669,000 were recalled. The steering assembly of these vehicles could deform if the driver made frequent aggressive turns at low speeds. In another Prius recall, the Prius was recalled for steering related issues. The steering issues could cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle. A total of 170,000 vehicles were affected by this recall.

Japanese car manufacturer, Honda, is also under investigation. 87,000 Honda Pilots, produced in 2005, are affected by the investigation. The federal agency has received 205 reports of unexpected severe braking. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration believes that this problem could be caused by a faulty sensor in the Vehicle Stability Assist system.

If you experience any safety issues with your vehicle, please do not hesitate to report it. Your report could save many lives. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration takes these complaints very seriously. These particular investigations were the result of nonprofit safety groups.
