A single car crash in Huntington Beach left a man and woman dead.

Two people died in a fatal collision that took place at about 5:20 a.m. this morning. The collision took place at Ellis Avenue and Main Street. Investigators believe that the driver, driving a Honda sedan, was traveling westbound on Ellis Avenue at a high rate of speed. The driver failed to successfully execute a turn onto Main Street.

The Civic slammed into a tree. The force of the impact split the Civic into at least two pieces. There were no survivors. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.  Pieces of the vehicle were scattered up to 60 feet from the tree.
