3 Separate Hit and Runs

Three separate hit and run collisions resulted in serious injuries for a 56 year old woman in a wheelchair and two deaths.

The first hit and run occurred on Monday.  The crash occurred near Calle de La Plata and Calle de la Louisa, close to the Saddleback Memorial Hospital. It was reported at approximately 5 p.m. Witnesses reported that the driver stopped briefly after the collision, but then the driver drove away from the area. The witnesses described the driver as an elderly male. No other information is known about the driver.  The victim sustained broken bones.

Later in the evening, a man was killed in another hit-and-run. The man was walking in a crosswalk across a freeway ramp in Anaheim. A dark sedan ran into him and then fled.

Early the next morning, on Tuesday, a body was found lying at Anaheim Boulevard and Lincoln Avenue. The victim was Newton Fukushima, 43. He was found at approximately 5:30 a.m. Anaheim police are treating his death as a hit and run.  No witnesses have come forward.

These hit and runs are just three of the many hit and runs that have occurred since November. A 7 year old girl was hit and then dragged. Another 3 year little girl was run over also. There was also another incident involving three teenage boys.  The recent hit and runs have also resulted in deaths. A woman was killed by a taxi while crossing a Garden Grove street, and a 24-year-old man also died in a hit-and-run accident in Westminster.

The police are asking for any information to help find these drivers. According to police, it is crucial to track down the driver within the first hours and days. Witnesses and surveillance tape are all very important.

An individual charged with a hit and run conviction can face up to four years in state prison. If the driver was drunk, he or she can face up to five years. Hit-and-run drivers may also serve additional time if there are serious injuries or fatalities.

It is important to remember to practice safe driving. Pay attention to the road while driving. Drivers should refrain from loud music, speeding, and eating while driving. Furthermore, drivers should not text, talk on the phone, and drink and drive. Accidents can happen to anyone, even the best drivers. A delayed reaction or a few seconds of distraction can result in very serious accidents.
