Stanton has a rich, proud history that can trace its origins back to the days when California was controlled by Spaniards. It was once part of one of the largest land grants. The original grant was 300,000 acres of lands. Manual Perez Nieto owned this grant, but the grant was divided in half after protests by the padres of Mission San Gabriel. Nieto’s son Juan Jose inherited the land and named it Rancho Los Alamitos. He eventually sold it to then governor Jose Figueroa. The land was then sold to Don Able Stearns. Stearns was one of the first Americans to arrive in California in 1829.

In 1906, trains began operating in Stanton. The Pacific Electric Railway became a part of the Stanton daily life. Stanton residents used Pacific Electric as transport to Los Angeles for business. The train brought business and more people to Stanton.

Before 1911, Stanton was actually known as Benedict. In 1911, Anaheim wanted to create a sewage farm on an incorporated area between Anaheim and Stanton. The farmers of Stanton strongly opposed this proposal. Phillip Stanton, Seal Beach resident, helped the farmers incorporate the land. In 1924, Stanton residents voted to disincorporate to allow the state to construct roads. Stanton did not reincorporate until 1956. On June 4, 1956, Stanton official incorporated.

Parks are an important part of Stanton. New parks include Veterans Memorial Park, Pocket Park, and Harry M. Dotson Park. Some of the public parks in Stanton are The Norm Ross Sports Complex, Premier Park, Stanton Community Services Center Park, Stanton Park, and Hollenbeck Park. In the Adventure City, there are animals, rides, tree houses, and more.

There were 3 fatalities and 7 people involved. 3 people were pedestrians. In 2008, there was one fatal accident, and one fatality. 2 people were involved in this fatal accident, and one of these people was a pedestrian. The actual car accident rate for Stanton is much higher than these numbers. These numbers only include fatal car accidents.

All of the fatal accidents in 2009 and 2008 happened on busy local streets. In 2009, all of the fatal accidents occurred on busy local streets. Two fatal accidents occurred on Magnolia Street. There was also a fatal accident on the intersection of Beach Boulevard and Chapman Avenue. In 2008, there was an accident on Cerritos Avenue. Busy streets can be very dangerous. On local streets there are pedestrians and intersecting traffic. It is important to not run reds and follow traffic.

There were many pedestrians involved in these fatal accidents. This is partly because Stanton has many outdoor activities and community service opportunities. Youth Sports are an important tradition in the community. Activities like Pop Warner Football and Little League are important traditions for Stanton residents. Furthermore, there are many parks in the city. Stanton also has an excellent sports facility and community center. Community service organizations are also an important part of the Stanton Community. There are many prominent community service organizations in Stanton. These include American legion Post 783, Stanton Boys and Girls Club, Stanton Kiwanis Club, and Stanton Lions Club.

All these outdoor activities promote healthy and positive ideals, but this also means that there is an increase of pedestrians. It is important for pedestrians and drivers to remember pedestrian safety rules. A pedestrian must always look on both sides of the street before crossing. Refrain from distractions while walking. Distractions like talking on the phone, texting, or even eating take focus away from the road. Drivers must always be on the lookout for pedestrians. It is also important for drivers to not distract themselves with mobile devices, navigation systems, and more. Before crossing the street, pedestrians should try to make eye contact with drivers. Drivers should also be especially attentive around schools and parks. Children often do not think about following safety rules. Pedestrians should stay away from freeways and restricted zones. When it is dark, pedestrians should wear bright clothes or retro-reflective materials. It is also helpful to carry a flashlight. If you are bright, drivers will be able to easily see you.

Traffic fatalities are an important concern for Stanton residents. Car accidents cause physical and emotional trauma for everyone involved.
